Updates (Page 4)

July 3rd - Success [REPRISE] (8:25AM)

So, about yesterday. I spent the last two or three hours working on getting the serial connection to work. I did actually succeed, eventually, not sure how I made it happen. Especially since I was having trouble getting the "Apple SSC:" prompt to show up, despite the fact that I've seen it once and the connection seemed to work. In either case I do have a working connection. Although, I am afraid of disconnecting it on the off-chance that the wires will some become incorrectly connected. I need to apply some hot glue to the side of the connection without solder (to keep the wires in place). Picture links below (in all their high-res glory):

Note: the 's' link is a smaller version of the original (~640x480 vs. 1280x1024) They are actually a wee tad longer and a little less tall than 640x480, but it's better. I am choosing not to accomodate smaller screens (since they probably only support text and/or don't have a web browser anyway, if they do a little scrolling is probably doable). Also a significant further decrease would reduce picture quality.

July 4th

Didn't get to see any fireworks this years, not that I am unpatriotic or anything, but I guess no one else was interested and I wasn't pushing. That's just too bad. Nothing accomplished today, too lazy, so I'll just be posting here instead of putting this puny entry on the blog tonight. Maybe I'll retroactively post it there later for redundancy. Anyway, I've added some links to the blog/documentation of the other RetroChallenge entrants doing stuff with their Apple IIs. Wishing everyone the best their respective projects. Kinda feel bad for PrintStar, sounds like it's been a little rough on his end of things. Anyone care to explain why getting resistors and wire are such a problem for Wgoodf? At least here in the US, you can get a fair bit from Radio Shack, even if they charge you an arm and a leg for it. Ex. RGB LED costs USD $2.99/each when you can buy 100 of them for USD $60 from Sparkfun (link). Anyway I always enjoy reading other people's RetroChallenge blogs, etc. It's almost a pastime, could spend an hour doing that. Hot gluing of the cable and level-shifter circuit construction tomorrow. Must ask parents whether there any other blank 5 1/4" disks, need them for terminal program. That and I'd love to have a 2nd Unidisk 5.25", it would reduce the little bit of disk swapping experience I've had so far. Over and out!

P.S. Not as puny an entry as expected, Yikes. Now I'm wondering whatever happened to Lod (Aaron Wolfe), no updates there since the RetroChallenge started...
